When did any level of terrorism become acceptable terrorism? A conservative news moguls home was recently besieged by leftist terrorists. “Terrorist” is used in the most basic terms of its definition in that their intent was to intimidate his family and him based on his political beliefs. There was a time in our history, and it was realistically not too long ago, where this type of offense could potentially carry the death penalty. It currently heralds a 25 year prison sentence to destroy or damage any structure or real property in the act of terrorism. Thank God that no one was actually hurt.
These people did not come to have a discussion; to change his mind. They attempted to break into his home, and even made literal death threats. What’s worse than their actions is that there are others out their condoning, excusing, and even applauding the group. This is absolutely disgusting. Vile. Wretched. Putrid.
A free society includes free thinking. Violating the right to free expression doesn’t just violate our Constitutional rights. No, the Constitution was put into place to emphasize our rights. The first right, and arguably one of the most important rights, is the freedom to say what we want. By violently accosting another in order to force them to agree, the right of expression is suddenly deprived.
So the question is posed again, in another way… When our country had only until very recently held the freedom to express oneself as a most sacred piece of our existence, why have we allowed some to silence others? Why have these monsters not been arrested?
I fear a turning point will be reached. I fear it will not be a commendable end. But I also understand that a people can only be pushed so far. There is a breaking point, and our country has hit that point at least twice within our short history. I can only pray that things do not lead down that violent path.
